Sanyo Launches Mobile Services In Japan Utilizing Openshark's Infrastructure Software

Sanyo Electric's AirStorage unit allow Japanese customers to view rich email and attachments from data-enabled cell phone handsets

SAN JOSE, Calif.,  - Openshark Inc.'s business partner, Sanyo Electric, launched its new mobile service, AirStorage across Japan on November 21, 2003. The service delivers rich email and attachments to data-enabled cell phones. The service allows users to immediately preview attachments on their mobile phones to determine their importance. The delivered information is reduced in size while retaining all of the original information including embedded objects, graphics, colors, and font.

Openshark Patented Software

Openshark's MAI software is the key element in the service and is highly scalable, cost-effective, secure and reliable. MAI is designed to integrate with all third-party email and messaging servers to provide a transparent user email experience. A link to the original file is also provided allowing users to download the original if required.

Openshark's software translates each incoming message for optimum viewing based on the specific characteristics of each client device including screen resolution, display color depth, markup language support, and network size limits. Besides cell phones, MAI also supports any PDA, PC (including notebooks and tablet PCs), and Internet Appliance with a web browser and Internet access. MAI requires no additional software or applets to be installed on the client device.

The delivered email is usually several times smaller than the original, which will be critical for wireless users where the bandwidth is significantly slower than wireline access.
