Openshark, Inc. Focuses On
Cell Phone Market Growth And Rich Mobile Email And
Attachments
Huge market looms for
Openshark's email enhancement software
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Openshark,
Inc. has directed its focus on the opportunities that
the newest generation of cell phones is bringing to the
US market. The newest generation of cell phones and
networks has Internet and image capabilities, which make
them ideal for using Openshark® MAI Messaging Agent™
software solution that allows them to seamlessly view
rich email and attachments.
MAI Messaging Agent supports a wide range of files
while translating them for optimum viewing based on the
specific characteristics of each client device including
screen resolution, display color depth, markup language
support, and network size limits. Most mobile users
today do not have access to rich email and attachments
and for the small percentage that do, they receive only
text versions.
Cell Phone Market to Grow to 2 Billion
Various forecasts show that cell phones will have a
market penetration of over 2 billion* phones worldwide
by 2006/2007. Many of these will have email and internet
capabilities to utilize Openshark's MAI software. MAI
enables files to be viewed on these devices by using the
computing power located at the data center leaving the
cell phone to retrieve and view the information. MAI
does not require additional software or applets to be
installed on the client device.
Designed for Mobile Access
Openshark's process typically reduces the message
size to a fraction of the original, while retaining the
graphics, embedded objects such as charts and graphs,
colors and font. Newer wireless standards are still much
slower than wireline access making Openshark MAI a
necessity for mobile access to rich email and
attachments.
MAI also provides a link to the original file within
the message allowing users to download the original if
required and is for users accessing their mail with a PC
and high-speed connection. MAI is highly scalable,
cost-effective, secure and reliable making it ideally
suited for large-scale deployment for carriers and large
enterprises.
Openshark MAI Messaging Agent software platform is
designed to integrate with all third-party email and
messaging servers to provide a transparent user email
experience. The device only requires an Internet
connection and a web browser to view over 70 file types.
The software works just as well with PDAs, PCs, and
Internet Appliances, but the clear opportunity is with
cell phones.
MAI is currently deployed in Japan where data-enabled
cell phones have been available for at least two years.
Japanese customers are using MAI to exchange data
between incompatible networks as well as previewing
email attachments. Extensive testing with over 160 cell
phone models has been done in Japan.
