Openshark Enables Email Attachments On Wireless & Wired Devices

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 17, 2001 -- Openshark, Inc., a worldwide leader of electronic mail and

messaging productivity software, today announces Mai Messaging Agent™, a solution for

viewing a variety of email attachments.

Mai Messaging Agent automatically converts popular email attachments for viewing on personal

computers, internet appliances (e.g. WebTV, AOLTV), PDA’s (e.g. Palm, Handspring, Sony, HP,

Sharp, PSION), and cellular telephones. This includes ZIP compression files, a variety of graphics

types and all versions of Microsoft Office including the most recent OfficeXP (Word, Excel and

PowerPoint). The entire solution resides at the mail server and neither plug-in application software

nor firmware is required in the client device. The user simply clicks just once to view email in real-time.

Messaging is the killer application for wireless and consumes more than 50% of Japan’s wireless data

traffic as reported by NTT DoCoMo, KDDI(AU) and J-Phone. Business demand in the US wireless market

will drive competing US carriers (Verizon, Cingular, ATT Wireless, SprintPCS, Nextel) to offer superior

email services. Text only email is unnecessarily restrictive and one of many reasons for the lack of

acceptance. Both public and private sector users are willing to pay for the additional airtime; they insist

on complete, efficient and productive solutions.

Hardware vendors also benefit. They can design the slimmest, most battery efficient and least expensive

devices without compromising features and functions. Design time is reduced while product life is extended,

and incremental revenues are gained from services. Service providers can introduce value-added features

to retain and expand customers.

As people begin to receive Microsoft OfficeXP files from friends, constituents and colleagues, we are yet

again reminded of the tedious procedure of downloading huge viewers, installing new software and yet

again learning the idiosyncrasies of a slightly different product under the guise of knowledge. Openshark

is seeking partners within the email industry to offer our unique features to a broad audience. Openshark

offers no risk Mai Messaging Agent evaluation licenses to qualified OEM alliance partners and enterprise

networks that serve the public and private sector user communities.

Mai Messaging Agent resides on a secure server adjacent to your mail server. It works transparently

converting attachments to HTML and returning one or more links to your email inbox. You email address

remains the same.
