Wireless Week:
Openshark MAI Messaging Agent
Openshark Inc. recently announced MAI Messaging Agent, a
solution that automatically converts e-mail attachments for
viewing on PDAs and wireless phones. Mai Messaging Agent
enables ZIP compression files, a variety of graphics types
and all versions of Microsoft Office, including the most
recent Office XP (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
The entire solution resides at the mail server, and
no plug-in or firmware is required in the client device.
Mai Messaging Agent transparently converts attachments
to HTML, returning one or more links to the user's
e-mail inbox.

EE Times:
Wireless didn't meet user expectations
According to Darwin Chang, president of Openshark Inc.,
"A lot of the slowdown in the wireless industry is
attributable to the fact that users haven't had their
expectations fulfilled."
Now, I always listen to Darwin, who had been one of
my key contacts on graphics and monitor issues until he
departed the field to start up Openshark (San Jose,
Calif.) early last year. Chang served on the original
board of directors at the Video Electronics Standards
Committee and also served as the group's first technical
chairman. He's credited with developing the first PC
schematic-capture program for Mentor Graphics some years
ago and, more recently, with designing the first LCD
monitor that complied with the Digital Visual Interface
standard. Moreover, according to an Openshark spokesman,
"three or more of Darwin's innovations are incorporated
in every personal computer sold today."
