New Email configuration
Due to the rash of connectivity and other problems, I've
totally revamped the email infrastructure.
- Outlook access from the office is unaffected
- Web email (Outlook Web Access) is now a secure (SSL)
site
- Remote email protocols (POP3 and IMAP4) will migrate
to secure protocols (POP3S and IMAP4S)
- Outgoing email relay (so you can send while remote)
uses a secure mail relay
- There's also direct Outlook access from home without
a VPN. See me for details as that install is a lot more
complex).
Security: For anything that requires a security
certificate (Secure Web Email, Secure POP3 and Secure IMAP),
you will need to install a certificate on your remote
computer -- this essentially tells your computer to trust
the certificates that Openshark issues. Follow
this procedure to install a
certificate.
Web Email (Outlook Web Access): Once the certificate is
installed, you can use use this. There is a new URL for
access:
https://owa.openshark.com/exchange. Please note the
protocol of this command -- it is https, not http.
POP3 Clients: We will require a secure connection soon
(but i will leave the non-secure version accessible will
still be active until the end of January).
Details are here. Please also
remember that you need to configure
authenticated SMTP to send email outside of the
openshark.com domain.
IMAP4 Clients: Similar to POP3, but install details are
linked here. Non-secure version
will be active until end of Jan, but please migrate as soon
as possible. Also remember
authenticated SMTP.
Hope that is clear. I'll revamp the VPN structure at a future
date. Enjoy!
