Automated notification of new projects is an important feature of Openshark LF. When a new project is created a single contact at each utility is notified. This allows each organization to initiate their  screening and evaluation processes that could lead to the timely replacement of their asset. This reduces the asset's future maintenance requirements, thus  preserving the new pavement surface.

Another key feature of Openshark LF is that all stakeholders to a specific project (a.k.a. subscribers) are immediately notified when a project owner changes a project. This change might be the addition of a new document, a change in the schedule or a change to the project route.

Project Managers (owners) of a project also receive important automated communications. Every project manager that owns a project is notified whenever a new project is  created (or changed) by a third party that directly conflicts with their project
